Young women recovering after ‘horrible’ New Year accident in Perth

A young woman who was involved in a collision with a car in Perth in the early hours of New Year’s Day has spoken of her terrifying ordeal as she recovers from her injuries.

Ailsa Howden, 19, was left with concussion and a suspected broken nose, while her friend Necole Stewart, 20, suffered a gash to her leg in the incident.

The former Perth Grammar School pupils were crossing George Street when the accident happened at around 12.30am.

“We had just got out of a friend’s car and were heading to a friend’s flat,” explained Ailsa from Stanley, who was home for the holidays from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

“I was knocked across the bonnet on to the road and Necole was caught on the bonnet before coming off … It was horrible.”

Both girls were rushed to hospital and Ailsa was later readmitted for further treatment.

She is now waiting for the swelling to go down to see if her nose is broken while Necole is recovering at home in Almondbank.

A 52-year-old man has been charged in relation to the incident and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Meanwhile, a 51-year-old cyclist is in a critical but stable condition after suffering a head injury in a road accident involving a bus on Monday around 5pm.

The incident took place near the junction of the A9 Perth to Inverness road and Inveralmond Place, just north of the Inveralmond roundabout.
